Gaspar has been involved with the planting of trees since 1979! With an international background in tree nursery operations, agro-forestry, arboriculture, and urban forestry, he has worked for and with private consultants, contractors, First Nations, NGOs, conservation authorities, and municipalities across Canada, in New Zealand and in the US mid-west.
Gaspar is an ISA Certified Arborist, Municipal Specialist with Tree Risk Assessment, Tree & Plant Appraisal and Oak Wilt qualifications. He is currently the Forest Analyst for the City of Windsor, assisting to develop Windsor’s first Urban Forest Management Plan. Other project involvement includes working on canopy cover maintenance, the City-wide tree inventory, tree service contracts, annual tree planting programs, adopting climate change adaptation strategies into an urban forestry context, and IPM programs.
Gaspar’s personal interest in forestry and environmental work has focused on the use and benefits derived by individuals and communities from living trees and forests.
Gaspar’s other activities include kayaking, birding, and carpentry, where he is working to creatively re-purpose wood recovered from urban tree removals.
